Sacconi Quartet and The Musical Brain
On the weekend of 2-3 October 2010, the Sacconi Quartet took part in The Musical Brain's weekend conference at St John's Smith Square, London, inspired by Robert Schumann: The Man, the Mind, the Music.
'The Musical Brain Conference was a very interesting and unique experience for us. I loved learning things from a scientific perspective. The lectures that we saw were very engaging. If only we could have gone to them all! ' (Hannah Dawson)
It was a fantastic weekend: the Sacconis played a full-evening concert of Beethoven, Elgar and the Schumann Piano Quintet (with Ian Brown) on the Saturday night. On the Sunday night they played in a concert with James Gilchrist and Anna Tilbrook. During both days, the Quartet took part in the conference; there were panel debates, discussions and talks with eminent scientists, musicologists and musicians.
'The weekend was a fantastic chance for us to learn more about composers' minds and our own! It really felt like we delved further into the music and it was great to all share our ideas with others.' (Cara Berridge)
The Quartet relished the opportunity to find out more about the science that relates to their profession, as well as give the scientists further insight into performance.
'This was a wonderful weekend. It was a unique opportunity for us to learn a little about the science of how music affects the brain, and to share experiences and play to a very knowledgeable audience.' (Ben Hancox)
