World Premiere: Paul Patterson String Quartet No.2: Dances for Thaxted

21st June 2011

On Saturday 25th June at 7pm, the Sacconi Quartet will be performing the world premiere of Paul Patterson's new string quartet at the Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.

The Thaxted Festival has commissioned Patterson's String Quartet No.2: 'Dances for Thaxted' to celebrate the festival's 25th anniversary, and also to mark the 100th anniversary of the Thaxted Morris Men.

On the night of the world premiere, the Thaxted Morris Men will lead a procession through the town to the church (as happens every year) where, at the end of the concert, there will be Morris dancing, ending with the traditional dancing of the Abbot’s Bromley Horn Dance.

Performed only twice a year in Thaxted, it is the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance that has inspired the new Patterson piece; it's haunting melody can be heard many times throughout. This new piece has been written for the Sacconi Quartet, who will also perform Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert in the concert.
