Critical acclaim for the new Czech disc
The recent release of the Sacconi Quartet's recording of Romantic Czech quartets has prompted wide-spread critical acclaim for the new disc.
The recording of quartets by Dvorak, Smetana and Suk has been featured on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, and is soon to have its debut on a Canadian radio station. Chi-chi Nwanoku chose the Dvorak American Quartet for her penultimate Requests show on BBC Radio 3. Part of the Dvorak was played by John Suchet on his Classic FM morning show, and the CD was later tipped as one of Classic FM's 'Hot Shots' for the Classical Chart. Later this month, the disc will feature on David Mellor's New CD Show on Saturday 30th July, 6-7pm, with the Sacconi Quartet chosen as his 'Young Artists to Watch'.
As well as featuring on-air, the CD has also been receiving notable praise in the printed press:
-"...a sensational and revealing new recording...a superlative disc...a treasure trove of top-drawer performances "
Michael Tumelty, The Scottish Herald, July 2011
-"The Sacconi, a fast rising British string quartet...bring something fresh and distinctive. Dvorak's American Quartet has a light touch and springy rhythms that suit the music perfectly. ... I loved Suk's Meditation on an Old Czech Hymn St Wenceslas"
Richard Morrison, The Times, June 2011
-"This Czech programme suits the infectious bounce and fizz of the Sacconis, who bring Dvorak's songful "American" quartet to vivid life and drive along the dance-like second movement of Smetana's Quartet No 1 with an irrepressible swing...Equally, they create a reverential stillness in Suk's Meditation on an Old Czech Hymn, a single-movement work of fervent yet dignified Czech nationalism"
Stephen Pritchard, The Observer, July 2011
